Beartropolis – Original Hand-Embellished Canvas, Framed 24 × 36 in

What if you looked out a jet window and saw a city laid out in the shape of a man? In Beartropolis, I imagined an aerial fantasy map of a city built for and by the bear community.

I named the roads, districts, and landmarks after LGBTQ+ iconography, slang, and icons. You’ll find the Judy Garland National Forest and the Coco Peru Shopping Experience, Oscar Wilde Peak and Morningwood Heights, along with Fabulous, Butch, Dadbots, and Dopplebanger Canyon. And yes, you fly in and out of RuPaul International Airport. Of course you do.

At my studio, people stop in front of this painting and don't move for ten minutes. They're reading the map. They're laughing. They're pointing things out to each other. Many times they haven't seen the man in it yet! That's the magic of Beartropolis.

My Beartropolis paintings invite you to dive in and follow the patterns and lines.
